The Dwarves in my flintlock fantasy setting are proving a bit tricky to develop. I know they have some of the traits Dwarves in other settings tend to possess (live mostly underground, work with stone and metal, have a strong sense of tradition, etc.) but I'm trying to find some new twists for them. What I do know for certain is that guilds are a BIG part of many of their cultures, that they usually have republics, not monarchies (with the guilds often controlling whole voting blocks,) they are masters of mathematics, and they invented opera. Oh, and their women do not have beards. On their faces, anyway...
